Migraine Management

Migraine is an issue that goes beyond a bad headache and is a complicated neurological disease which is characterised by frequent episodes of moderate to severe pain in the head, which most times has been associated with other effects such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to sound and light.

• Diagnosis & Triggers: A detailed history and physical examination are necessary to diagnose the patient and identify individual triggers (such as diet, stress, and hormones) that initiate a migraine attack.
• Acute Therapy: The effective abortive medications (such as Triptans) are prescribed to prevent a migraine once started.
• Preventive Therapy: In cases of chronic or frequent migraines, we give prophylactic drugs according to each person to decrease the occurrence and severity of an attack.
• Lifestyle Integration: Instructions on stress management, sleep hygiene and nutritional changes as essential elements of migraine prevention.

Epilepsy and Seizure Control

Epilepsy refers to the neurological condition characterised by unprovoked repeated and brief seizures, or a short-term temporary impairment of brain cells caused by inappropriate electrical activity.

• Accurate Diagnosis: Based on a complete patient history and witness statements, as well as the analysis of diagnostic data, including EEG (Electroencephalogram) and neuroimaging (MRI/CT scans, where appropriate).
• Medication Selection: Prescription of the best Anti-Epileptic Drugs (AEDs) according to the exact type of seizure, the general health of the patient, and any possible drug interaction.
• Therapeutic Monitoring: Intermittent checking of drug levels and patient outcome to achieve an optimal seizure outcome with minimal adverse effects.
• Comorbidity Management: Treating epilepsy with other chronic illnesses, particularly diabetes and hypertension, which occur more frequently in Internal Medicine practice.
